THE MOST COMMON CONCRETE PROBLEMS IN WINERIES

ERODED CONCRETE

New uncoated concrete looks great, is easy to clean, and is acceptable to regulators. For this reason, coating the concrete during new construction is often overlooked. The cement in concrete is not designed for the acidic environment of wineries and quickly erodes. Leaving you with an area for contamination plus a safety hazard for employees and equipment.

Food Safety Modernization Act inspectors have been issuing citations to wineries whose concrete is not properly protected. They have focused on the concrete in the production and bottling areas, as well as the often overlooked concrete lined drains, sumps, and containment areas. Unsure if your concrete will pass inspection? Give us a call.

CONCRETE COATINGS FAILURE

To save money, many wineries apply epoxy coatings themselves or pick a cheap installer with limited experience. Truth be told, epoxies are great in certain applications, just not wet environments. Reinstalling epoxy year after year is not the answer. We deliver long term, guaranteed floor and wall coating solutions, tailored specifically to wineries so that you can focus on what you do best; making delectable wine.

POOLING WATER AND/OR FLUIDS

Sometimes concrete slabs settle incorrectly after installation, creating pooling water in key production areas. Aside from becoming a bacteria cesspool, it's a slipping hazard to your employees. We can re-slope the concrete surface so it drains properly, provide the best coating for your floors protection, and increase traction that will aid in slip resistance.

REDUCING THE RISK OF CONTAMINATION

Bacteria, mold, and other contaminants can devastate your wine production. Adding seamless anti-microbial coatings to your concrete floors and walls will ensure that the only thing growing is your profitability. Plus, it scores good marks with inspectors.

PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSIVE CIP CHEMICALS

Cleaning chemicals are hard on concrete, but are no match for our chemical resistant coatings. We have a variety of solutions to ensure long-term protection and substantial cost savings for your concrete floors and walls.Bacteria, mold, and other contaminants can devastate your wine production. Adding seamless anti-microbial coatings to your concrete floors and walls will ensure that the only thing growing is your profitability. Plus, it scores good marks with inspectors.

PROTECT YOUR PEOPLE – ANTI-SLIP SURFACES

Slip resistant floor coatings are essential for protecting your employees in wet environments. Our coatings come in a variety of finishes and textures depending on the level of grip needed. Instead of risking downtime and money with an injured worker, invest in slip resistant floors.

COATED TRANSITIONS AND WALL SYSTEMS

Adding a seamless transition from your floors to your walls helps to eliminate the cracks and small pockets that harbor dirt, dust, and potentially harmful bacteria/mold. Equally, the radius cove significantly improves the ease of cleaning.

REHAB CONCRETE DRAINS AND IMPROPER FLOOR SLOPING

Get those standing pools of water, wine, and chemicals into the drains where they belong. We collaborate with you to determine exactly where you want the fluids to go and devise a plan that leaves you with a gradual slope to drains. You are left with employees on safe footing and no place for an inspector to cite you for a contamination source.

CONCRETE POLISH FOR STORAGE, ADMIN, AND RETAIL AREAS

Polished concrete saves you money and is a “greener option” than traditional flooring. Polished concrete increases LRV (light reflective value) and reduces the need for cyclical upkeep, eliminating the need for waxes and additional sealers.

WE CAN MAKE YOUR OLD FLOOR DISAPPEAR

Patching over existing floor coating failures is just that, a band-aid. Floor removal and demolition is a tough and dirty job. That’s exactly why you should let us do it for you. We can quickly remove old dilapidated floors or even rehabilitate ones with significant wear. Leaving us the perfect canvas to install a long-lasting high-performance floor coating system.

WINERY FLOOR & WALL SYSTEM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can’t I buy an epoxy floor coating kit and do it myself?
DIY epoxy kits are great for home garages. Many wineries try this option not realizing that they're not designed for the acidic environment of wineries. After re-applying epoxy kits year after year, wineries call us out to provide a better solution.

Why don’t we just let the concrete erode and eventually replace it?
This is certainly an option and one that is often selected during new construction to “save” money. Initially, the new concrete looks great, is easy to clean, and is acceptable to regulators. Once the acidic environment of wine production and cleaning starts to erode the concrete, you are left with limited options. Demolition and replacement of the concrete is exponentially more expensive.

Why not just tile the floor?
Tile is great but the grout is problematic. We often replace these tile floors due to grout and mortar bed failure. Grout lines collect dirt, harbor contaminants, and are more laborious to clean than a seamless industrial coating system.

Will the floor coating odors interfere with wine production?
We have the floor and wall coating systems with zero volatile organic compounds (VOC) yielding no harmful odors. We are happy to mix a small kit in advance for the winemaker to smell and approve.

What about LEED Points?
If you are a LIVE facility or take sustainability seriously, we will provide multiple options to help your winery achieve LEED points towards certification.
